That two-month window is the real constraint, not our availability. It means that for a trip in late December you can only secure park entrance from late October onward, and the popular morning slots go first. The national park tour, the catamaran, the mangrove boat and the horseback ride suit almost every age; canyoning and class IV–V rafting do not.
There is no single age rule because each operator sets its own minimum, and those minimums change. What we can tell you honestly: the park trails are wide and mostly flat with some stairs, so grandparents manage them at their own pace. The zip line and the ATV have height and age minimums. Canyoning involves rappelling on a rope over moving water, and the El Chorro rafting section is graded IV–V, which is genuinely advanced. Flip-flops are the single most common mistake on the park trails and on every water adventure. For rafting and canyoning, wear something you are happy to soak and bring a full change of clothes; phones and cameras should go in a dry bag or stay in the vehicle. Most tours run in the rain, and in the green season the rain usually arrives in the afternoon rather than the morning.
December and January sit in the dry season, so a December morning in Manuel Antonio is far more often sunny than not. When rain does come, the park tour and the boat tours continue — the wildlife does not disappear, and the trails are maintained. The adventures that get suspended are the ones where water level or lightning makes them unsafe: rafting on a river in flood, and occasionally the zip line. What you actually get for the difference is control: a private group sets off when it wants, stops as long as it likes at a sloth, and turns back when the children have had enough. On the guided park tour, sloths, monkeys and iguanas are seen on the large majority of mornings — but no honest operator will promise you an animal.
These are wild animals in a rainforest, not an enclosure. What a naturalist guide changes is the odds: guides know the trees individual sloths sleep in, carry a scope that turns a distant shape into a clear view, and read the forest for movement most visitors walk straight past. The water adventures are a different proposition — on the catamaran and the mangrove boat you are more likely to see birds, crabs and, in season, dolphins.
