Add 15 to 20 minutes in December and January. Route 34 runs single-lane over several bridges and the Quepos strip backs up after 8 a.m., so from Uvita we would rather you left at 5:00 a.m. and waited ten minutes at the gate than watched the opening bell from a queue.
The transport built into the Premium Shared All-in and the V.I.P. Private is hotel pick-up inside the Manuel Antonio–Quepos corridor. Uvita and Dominical are 70 and 50 km outside it, so from there the transfer is a separate quote that depends on your group size and date. We give you the exact figure on WhatsApp at +506 8514 1361 before you pay anything — we are not going to let you book a $65 Premium assuming a van is coming to Uvita.
If you are driving yourself, park in the paid lots at the entrance road and ignore the men who flag cars down about 3 km short of the gate claiming to be official parking. They are not official, and that stretch is the single most common complaint we hear from self-drivers.
From Dominical, do it as a day trip: an hour each way is a normal morning drive and you are back on your own beach by lunch. From Uvita it is a real decision — three hours of driving in a day, starting at 5:00 a.m. Travellers who want the 7 a.m. slot without the pre-dawn alarm move up to the Manuel Antonio–Quepos corridor for one night, which also puts them inside the included pick-up zone and turns the Premium into a door-to-door morning.
The reverse trip works too. Plenty of people staying here in Manuel Antonio drive south to the Whale Tail for a day, and we list the options on our tours hub. What we will not sell you is Manuel Antonio and the Whale Tail as one packaged day: the guided walk runs about three hours from the 7:00 a.m. opening, so your afternoon back south is free, but that is your drive, not our product.
Uvita and Dominical give you emptier beaches, humpback whale season and Marino Ballena; Manuel Antonio gives you the highest density of easily-seen wildlife on a maintained trail in the country, with a guide and a telescope. They are not competitors, they are two halves of the same coast, and one hour of Route 34 is what separates them. That is the honest reason a day trip north makes sense from Dominical even if you came for the whales.
What a guide changes here is what you actually see. Three-toed sloths sit motionless 20 metres up; without a telescope pointed at one you walk past it. We never promise a specific animal — probability, not guarantees — but the difference between a guided and an unguided walk on the same trail is not subtle.

Children pay less on every option — $30 becomes $20, $65 becomes $55, $69 becomes $59 and $100 becomes $90, with infants under three free. Those are the figures published on our guided tour page. The $30 Classic Group price has not moved and is not going to.
The entrance ticket is $18.08 per adult, it is sold only by SINAC, and the online window opens roughly two months — about 60 days — before the date you want. That is the whole rule that catches people out: you cannot buy a December ticket in March, and by the time the window opens for a high-season date the good mornings go fast. Opening hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with last entry at 3:00 p.m., taken from the official SINAC page and checked on 25 September 2026. Daily capacity is capped near 2,000 visitors.

No. The Costanera Sur is paved the whole way from Uvita and Dominical to Quepos and Manuel Antonio. A standard rental car is fine year round.
