Leave Jacó at 5:15 a.m. and you walk the trail in the two quietest hours of the day. It is 73.2 km and about 1 hour 32 minutes of driving from Jacó to the Manuel Antonio National Park gate, all of it paved — no 4×4 needed. The route is the Costanera Sur, Route 34, south through Parrita and Quepos. Measured gate to gate on the OSRM routing engine on 26 September 2026 and re-checked the same day from a second set of town-centre coordinates, which returned 72.5 km and 91 minutes: the honest range is 72–74 km and about an hour and a half.

A routing engine does not know about December traffic. Route 34 narrows to single-lane bridges around Parrita, and the Manuel Antonio road backs up after 8 a.m., so in December and January add 15 to 20 minutes to that departure and leave Jacó at 5:00 a.m. instead. The one thing you cannot buy back is the 7 a.m. opening bell.
Leave Jacó at 5:15 a.m., be at the gate at 6:45 a.m., walk in at 7:00 a.m. with the first guides, and you are back on Route 34 northbound around 11:00 a.m. — home in Jacó for a late lunch. That is the whole reason the early start matters: the park opens at 7:00 a.m. and the large bus groups arrive between 9:00 and 10:30 a.m., so the two hours you buy by leaving in the dark are the two quietest hours of the day on the trail.
Wildlife behaves the same way. Sloths, capuchins and squirrel monkeys are most active in the cool early morning, and heat pushes them into the canopy by mid-morning. We never promise an animal — nobody honest does — but the probability curve is steepest before 9 a.m., and that is what a 5:15 a.m. departure from Jacó is actually buying.
No. The transport included in the Premium Shared All-in and the V.I.P. Private covers hotel pick-up inside the Manuel Antonio–Quepos corridor, which is about 70 km short of Jacó. From Jacó you have two clean options: drive yourself and meet the guide at the gate, or ask us for a private transfer quote for your group size and date. We give you the exact figure on WhatsApp before you pay anything, and we would rather quote you than let you assume it is bundled.
If you are driving, park in the paid lots by the entrance road. And a warning worth the price of this page: people flag cars down about 3 km before the gate claiming to be official parking. They are not. Keep driving to the entrance. We wrote that up in more detail on our multi-town origin page.
Do it as a day trip if you have one free day and a rental car; move down for a night if you want a 6:30 a.m. wake-up instead of a 4:45 a.m. one. Both work. The honest trade-off is 3 hours of driving in one day against one hotel change — and if you are already deciding, the Manuel Antonio–Quepos corridor also puts you inside the included pick-up zone, which turns the $65 Premium into a genuinely door-to-door morning.

Children pay less on every option — $30 becomes $20, $65 becomes $55, $69 becomes $59 and $100 becomes $90, with infants under three free. Those are the figures published on our guided tour page. The $30 Classic Group price has not moved and is not going to.
The entrance ticket is $18.08 per adult, it is sold only by SINAC, and the online window opens roughly two months — about 60 days — before the date you want. That is the whole rule that catches people out: you cannot buy a December ticket in March, and by the time the window opens for a high-season date the good mornings go fast. Opening hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with last entry at 3:00 p.m., taken from the official SINAC page and checked on 25 September 2026. Daily capacity is capped near 2,000 visitors.
The park is closed every Tuesday. For this season that removes 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 December 2026 and 5, 12, 19 and 26 January 2027 — nine dates that no operator on earth can get you inside on. For the Classic Group start at 7:00 a.m., the guided walk runs about three hours, so you are leaving the park mid-morning and back in Jacó in the early afternoon. The V.I.P. Private runs three to four hours and includes lunch, which pushes your return to mid-afternoon.
Direct. We are the operator in Quepos, not a reseller — a desk in Jacó or an online marketplace adds its commission on top of the same guide and the same trail. The Classic Group is $30 per adult booked with us, and that price is not going up.
