This was hands-down one of the most magical experiences of my entire life!! Jason picked us up before sunrise and brought us high into the mountains to search for the Resplendent Quetzal, a true bucket-list bird for me. When we finally spotted it, I was completely in awe. Jason and Michael were knowledgeable, kind, and clearly so passionate about what they do. It was also lovely to meet Michael and learn about the important work he does with local farmers to help protect the Quetzals. At one point, while we were trying to get into position to see the Quetzal, they even helped me carefully climb a hill so I wouldn’t miss the sighting. That meant so much to me. I felt completely taken care of the entire time. My brother (a non-birder!) came with me and ended up having a spectacular time too. I honestly think he’s caught the birding bug. After we found the Quetzal, we stopped at two beautiful cafes where we saw tons of lifers. The hummingbirds alone were worth the trip! Jason also helped us capture incredible photos and videos, and took us to a delicious breakfast and lunch along the way. If you’re thinking about booking a birding tour in Costa Rica and hoping for a chance to see the Resplendent Quetzal, this is the one. Seriously, this is a “once-in-a-lifetime” kind of a tour. (Although I definitely plan on coming back!!)

It was my favorite day during the trip! Saw several Quetzals and other birds. Got several good pictures and videos. Jason and Michael were wonderful guides! Had a great day! Jason even gave me a bonus at the end of the tour by stopping at El Rey Playa where i took many pictures of more species of birds! I definitely recommand Wáköö tours for birdwatchers and photographers!

Jason was a fantastic guide and led us straight to the Quetzals - we would never have found them by ourselves. He knew their recent habitat and by listening for their call quickly located one. Later in the morning he took us to a nesting location and with his spotting scope we were able to get fantastic videos of the Quetzals going to and coming from the nests. He was very helpful, interesting to listen to, and knew great places for breakfast and lunch.

I met Jason for the first time last year and did different tours with him. As my experience was nothing less then excellent, and I returned to Costa Rica this year I did a few trips with him again. One of the trips was going to San Gerardo de Dota to see the Quetzal. I did this tour with one other guest and Jason (of course) didn’t disappoint as a guide. He is the best. He knows his birds, knows their calls and (maybe most important), he knows how to spot them. We saw quetzals as well as many other beautiful birds. We also went to 2 restaurants during this tour (breakfast and lunch). Food was nice, but the best part were the gardens of the restaurant with feeders….also saw many many species of birds over there. I fully recommend Jason as your guide when taking trips in and from the Quepos/ Manuel Antonio area.
