When the sun goes down, a completely different Manuel Antonio wakes up. With an ICT-certified naturalist guide and specialized lighting, you’ll find red-eyed tree frogs, snakes, sleeping birds, kinkajous and insects that only emerge after dark – creatures most visitors never get to see.
Our Manuel Antonio night tour is a slow, easy night walking tour with a naturalist guide – about 2.5 hours of pure discovery, in English or Spanish. The tour does not go inside Manuel Antonio National Park, which closes in the afternoon: it takes place at Sukia, a private forest reserve near Manuel Antonio that opens at night, and entrance to the Sukia reserve is included.

What the forest may reveal
The rainforest after dark is a completely different cast of characters. Kinkajous and woolly opossums move through the canopy, and two-toed sloths – famously sleepy by day – are actually more active at night. On the forest floor and along the leaves we search for red-eyed tree frogs, rain frogs and, near the streams, delicate glass frogs whose skin is so transparent you can see their tiny hearts beating.
Why the night
Then there are the creatures that make everyone lean in a little closer: tarantulas at the mouths of their burrows, scorpions that glow electric blue under our UV lights, stick insects doing their best branch impressions, and snakes like the beautiful eyelash pit viper coiled patiently on a branch. Overhead you may hear fishing bats skimming the water and, if we’re lucky, spot a spectacled owl watching us right back. Every close-up is shared through our Swarovski scope, and the sounds alone – frog choruses, insect calls, rustling leaves – are worth the walk.
Most rainforest animals are nocturnal. During the day they hide from heat and predators; after sunset the jungle switches on. The air cools, the frogs start calling, and the hunters come out to feed. That’s why a night walking tour with a naturalist guide often produces more nocturnal wildlife sightings in one evening than a full day of hiking. Your guide, Jason Solano Zamora, knows exactly where each species likes to hide, and our specialized lighting lets us observe the animals clearly without disturbing them.
There’s also something magical about the atmosphere itself. Walking a quiet rainforest trail at night, with fireflies blinking in the dark and the whole jungle singing around you, is an experience that stays with people long after the trip – many guests tell us it was the highlight of their entire Costa Rica vacation.
Here’s a local secret: Manuel Antonio National Park closes at 4pm every day, and it’s completely closed on Tuesdays. That leaves your evenings – and your Tuesdays – wide open. The night tour is the perfect answer: spend the morning on the beach or in the park, then come see the other half of the rainforest after dark. If you’re here on a Tuesday, this is simply the best wildlife experience available in Manuel Antonio that day.
Everything you need is covered: your ICT-certified naturalist guide, specialized lighting for spotting and observing nocturnal wildlife, a flashlight for every guest, entrance to the Sukia private reserve, round-trip transport from Quepos and Manuel Antonio, and our Swarovski scope with free 4K photos and videos of every discovery – you go home with the images, not just the memories. Before you go
After booking you receive a welcome message with every instruction: pickup point and time in Quepos or Manuel Antonio, and what to expect on the walk.

The walk is easy and slow-paced – we stop constantly to observe, so it’s great for kids and for anyone who prefers a relaxed pace. It’s the perfect second visit – or the perfect first one if you arrive in the afternoon.
Closed shoes (no sandals), insect repellent, a light rain jacket and your camera. Flashlights are provided by your guide. Bring your own reusable water bottle, filled.
After the tour, receive the 4K photos and videos of every discovery captured through the scope.

Our guide JASON was there 10 minutes before our tour began and he met us near the Chalo parking lot, to give us the rundown of what to expect and to go over the park rules. Right from the start you could tell that he was passionate about what he does because he was just as excited and happy as we were to be on the tour. We began our tour with a little history lesson about the Costarican Republic. He taught us a few words like Puravida and Tuanis ( too nice). We saw different wildlife along the way. Jason was knowledgeable, patient and funny. He made the tour cool. Some of the species we saw were two ‘Fer-de-Lance’ snakes, Jesus Christ lizard( common basilisk), Masked tree frog, Toucanets, Leaf nose bats, howler and capuchin monkeys, SLOTHS, brown tree snake, crowned wood nymph, giant red winged grasshopper, green anole lizard. Best walking tour 100% lasting almost 3 hours. Totally worth the price and JASON gave us all the pictures and videos for free. Thank you Jason. PURA VIDA.
