SINAC sells Manuel Antonio National Park entrance tickets online at serviciosenlinea.sinac.go.cr, and the system only opens dates about two months ahead. Tickets for a given day are capped, and on high season mornings they do sell out.
For a cruise passenger that window is awkward, because you often book the cruise far more than two months before you sail. The way we handle it: you tell us your call date when you book with us, and we buy the tickets the day the window opens for that date. That is included in what we arrange — no extra service fee — and it is the single most common reason a cruise passenger who arranged a park tour independently ends up turned away at the gate.
What we will never do is tell you tickets are available for a date the SINAC system has not opened yet. If we cannot see it, we say we cannot see it.
The two private options — $69 Classic Private and $100 VIP Private — and the reason is your clock, not your comfort. A private tour starts when you arrive and turns around when you need to turn around. A shared tour has a fixed departure the other travellers also paid for, so it cannot wait on a slow tender queue or cut itself short for one party.
That said, plenty of cruise passengers take the $30 Classic group tour and it works fine — the condition is a generous window. If your all-aboard time gives you six hours or more ashore, the group tour is honest value and we will book it without trying to move you up. If you have four to five hours, or you are travelling with someone who walks slowly, or there are more than four of you, pay for private and stop worrying about the schedule.
The $65 Premium is the odd one out for cruise passengers specifically. It is shared, not private, so it carries the same fixed-departure constraint as the $30 group tour at more than double the price. It is an excellent option for a land-based visitor with a flexible day; for a ship call, the $69 Classic Private costs $4 more and removes the constraint entirely.
Three-toed and two-toed sloths, white-faced capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys and a long list of birds are the realistic expectations on a morning walk — and we will not promise you a single one of them, because nobody honest can. Manuel Antonio is a wild park, not an enclosure.
What raises the odds is the thing you are paying a guide for: a naturalist who knows which specific trees the sloths were in yesterday, and a Swarovski scope that turns a grey smudge forty metres up into an animal you can photograph through the eyepiece. Squirrel monkeys — the small ones most visitors hope for — move in troops and are genuinely a matter of luck and timing; a 7:00 a.m. start is the best lever you have.
The walk also reaches Playa Manuel Antonio, the calm swimmable beach inside the park. On a cruise day most passengers skip the swim to protect their margin, which is the right call, but if your window is generous the beach is there.
