Manuel Antonio National Park opens at 7:00 a.m. and the large bus groups arrive between 9:00 and 10:30 a.m., so everything about a tour from Jacó, Quepos, Dominical or Uvita comes down to one number: how long the drive really takes. We measured every one of them on the OSRM routing engine on 26 September 2026, gate to gate, and built the departure times on this page around the opening bell rather than around a brochure. From Jacó it is 73.2 km and 1 hour 32 minutes to the park gate, so you leave at 5:15 a.m. to be at the entrance before it opens. All four routes below are paved, no 4×4 required, and all were measured on 26 September 2026 with the OSRM routing engine from the town centre to the SINAC gate.

Two honest corrections to those numbers. First, a routing engine does not know about December traffic: Route 34 narrows to single-lane bridges around Parrita and the Manuel Antonio road backs up after 8 a.m., so we add 15–20 minutes of buffer to the Jacó, Dominical and Uvita departures in high season. Second, the transport included in the Premium and V.I.P. tours is hotel pick-up inside the Manuel Antonio–Quepos corridor; from Jacó, Dominical or Uvita the transfer is a separate quote, and we give you the exact figure on WhatsApp before you pay anything.
A park day from Jacó is a 12-hour day, not a 14-hour one like San José. Leave Jacó 5:15 a.m., gate 6:47 a.m., inside at 7:00 a.m. with the first group of the day, guided walk until roughly 9:30 a.m. while the trails are still quiet, Playa Manuel Antonio inside the park until 11:00 a.m., lunch in Quepos or on the Manuel Antonio hill by noon, back in Jacó between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. That leaves your Jacó evening intact. There are four tours and only two of them include the park ticket, which is the difference that matters most when you are driving in from Jacó or Dominical. The Classic Group Tour is $30 per person, shared, certified guide and telescope, ticket not included. The Premium Tour is $65, shared, all-in: guide, telescope, park entrance ticket and hotel pick-up inside the Manuel Antonio–Quepos corridor. The Classic Private Tour is $69, your group only, at your pace, ticket not included. The V.I.P. Private Tour is $100 for 3–4 hours with guide, ticket, private transport, snack and lunch. The $30 group price has not moved and is not going to.
The arithmetic that decides it for most travellers arriving from out of town: add SINAC’s $18.08 per adult to the $30 tour and you are at $48.08 with your own car and your own parking problem, against $65 for the Premium with the ticket already bought and somebody else parking. The park is closed every Tuesday, which for this season removes 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 December 2026 and 5, 12, 19 and 26 January 2027. Those nine dates are not negotiable by anybody — no operator can get you inside on a Tuesday. Opening hours the rest of the week are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with last entry at 3:00 p.m., taken from the official SINAC page and checked on 25 September 2026. The other date rule worth knowing before you plan a drive: bookings for tours between 15 December and 15 January are not refundable at any time, which is the policy already published on our December booking page and not something invented for this one.
SINAC sells park tickets online about two months ahead, so the date you want may simply not exist yet when you start planning — that is a sales window, not a sold-out park. Practically: reserve the guide and the day with us now, then buy the $18.08 ticket the morning its window opens, because the December–April season is when the roughly 2,000 daily places actually run out. No, do not plan to walk it: Quepos town to the park gate is 7.1 km and about 14 minutes by road (OSRM, 26 September 2026), up and over the Manuel Antonio hill with no continuous sidewalk. The public bus Quepos–Manuel Antonio runs the same road roughly every 30 minutes for under $1 and drops you at Playa Espadilla, a 400 m walk from the gate. No. The official park entrance is the SINAC gate at the end of the Manuel Antonio road, and nobody official flags cars down on the highway. This is the single most reported complaint from travellers in the area, and the same people often add that the parking fee includes your ticket — it never does. Park at a signed lot near the gate, pay only at the counter, and keep driving past anyone in a vest on the road.
It depends on which of the four tours you book: the ticket is included in Premium ($65) and V.I.P. Private ($100), and it is not included in Classic Group ($30) or Classic Private ($69). The gate opens at 7:00 a.m.; the large bus groups from San José and the cruise transfers land between 9:00 and 10:30 a.m., which is also when the sloths and howlers go quiet in the heat. The first ninety minutes after opening are the calmest trail conditions and the best wildlife odds of the day — we cannot promise any animal, but we can promise you are there before the queue.
If your plan is one early park day, sleeping in Manuel Antonio or Quepos the night before beats a 5:15 a.m. start from Jacó — you swap a 92-minute pre-dawn drive for a 14-minute one. Quepos is cheaper, has the supermarket and the marina; Manuel Antonio is 3–7 km closer to the gate and quieter at night. Coming from Jacó for the day is perfectly doable on the times below, it is just a 12-hour day instead of an 8-hour one.
That is the order that works from any of these towns: lock the guide and the date first, because the guide and the 7:00 a.m. slot are the scarce part, then buy the SINAC ticket when its two-month window opens for your date.
